LIV Golf Invitational Series, London to Debut at Centurion Club

LIV Golf Invitational, London | Centurion Club

From 9 – 11 June 2022, Centurion Club played host to the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational. It was an historic and memorable occasion for Golf and our Club, with a field including some of the most recognisable names in the sport taking part in the innovative new event. The eyes of the world were on Centurion Club, as  the likes of Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Louis Oosthuizen and Phil Mickelson all graced the course for three days of thrilling golf and live entertainment.

With the aim of refreshing and adding a dynamic new element to the game of professional golf, the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series was founded by major champion, Hall of Fame member and former world number 1 golfer, Greg Norman, delivering an exciting new tournament format that features three rounds, shotgun starts, no cut and 12 star studded teams.

"This is an historic moment. The first LIV League tournament, and man, it's awesome.”
Charl Schwatrzel, Individual Winner

Charl Schwartzel fought off a late surge from fellow South African Hennie Du Plessis to clinch the inaugural title with an impressive three round score of 7-under par, while the Louis Oosthuizen captained Stingers GC were the first ever team winners on the opening event of the LIV invitational tour.

The course provided a challenge for the players over the three day event:

"It's a demanding course, so you've got to stay real focused and  to carefully execute the shots.”
Charl Shwartzel

"This course demands quality golf shots, especially off the tee. You've got to hit a lot of different clubs and you've got to hit the fairways, as they are quite narrow. I think it's a good prep going into the U.S. Open, as you're going to have to drive it well.”
Dustin Johnson

"It's not an easy golf course. You have to drive the ball very, very well. It's very tight…”
Sergio Garcia
