Stepping into the Director of Golf role and with over 20 years of international golf experience under his belt, is Peter Holland. Originally from Hertfordshire, Peter has worked at many clubs overseas including Monte Rei Club in Portugal, the Montgomerie & Butch Harmon Schools of Golf in Dubai and the Velaa Private Island in the Maldives and most recently at Agalarov Estate and Zavidovo PGA National Clubs in the Russian Federation. We caught up with him to learn more about his plans for Centurion Club

What brings you to Centurion Club?

I have been working abroad for many years, so when the opportunity to join the team as Director of Golf came up, I jumped at the chance. I grew up in Hertfordshire, so being back here and working for this presigious club with such a great team is incredibly exciting. I'm delighted to be here.
 
What plans do you have to enhance the experience for members at Centurion Club?

My aim is to get to know all the members and to make them feel special by offering attentive service at every turn. From offering shoe cleaning and club cleaning services to beautifully maintained and equipped practice areas. I am planning to develop members golf tournaments by adding a host of new events and also introducing more social opportunities too. Expanding the ladies and junior sections is also something I will be working on with the team, which is really exciting.

What do you love about Centurion Club's course?
 
It's a really varied course with both treelined and open landscaped holes. There are gorse bushes, strategically placed bunkers and water features which make it both rewarding and challenging. The greens play fast with plenty of surrounding slopes and features, so it’s enjoyable for seasoned pros and amateurs alike.

Tell us about the team... Who can members expect to meet when they visit?

On the golf side of things we have Kyson Lloyd who is a PGA Professional and Mark Gregson-Walters, our Director of Instruction, together with a team who run the Golf Operation. The team are out on the course, in the pro shop and in and around the Clubhouse all the time, so chances are you’ll meet most of them. In the member’s bar we have a great team who members will become acquainted with pre- or post-round and of course, out on the golf course is the Greenkeeping team. Headed up by Andy Garland, him and his team are the heroes who keep the course in such great condition.
 
What is it like to be a member at the Club?
 
As a member, you’re invited to treat the club like your home from home – a place to play golf, socialise, network and bring the family. There are opportunities to play at Clubs around the world through our reciprocal agreements with the likes of Monte Rei - Portugal, Taiheiyo Club - Japan, Clear Water Bay - Hong Kong and Els Club - Dubai.  On a day-to-day basis the golf course is professionally maintained with excellent playing surfaces, attentive service in golf operations, the Clubhouse and Restaurant.
 
What else do you think makes the club stand out?
 
The fact that we have stayed true to our original aim, which was to blend the rich history and traditions of golf with a modern, creative and progressive edge, to create a relaxed and welcoming club with no stuffy rules and regulations. This approach transcends the whole of the Club, from the golf team who greet you in the Pro Shop to the team in the Clubhouse and restaurant. 

What can we look forward to at Centurion Club over the coming months?
 
In June this year we will host two professional tournaments. The LIV Golf Invitational, a men’s event which takes place from 9-11 June and the Aramco Team Series, a Ladies European Tour event from 16-18 June. These two events will be a great opportunity for spectators to visit and watch the tournaments and to also enjoy the off course activity.
