Ireland win second edition of GolfSixes

Played over a glorious weekend in May, the second edition of GolfSixes saw the Irish pair of Paul Dunne and Gavin Moynihan beat Romain Wattel and Mike Lorenzo-Vera of France in the final on Sunday.

More than 10,000 spectators were welcomed through the Centurion Club gates over the weekend, where fans witnessed a world first with a mixed team of Ryder Cup Captain, Thomas Bjorn, and Solheim Cup Captain, Catriona Matthew compete in a European Tour Event.

Representing the Ladies European Tour, the England Women's team of Charley Hull and Georgia Hall defeated the England Men's Team of Matt Wallace and Eddie Pepperell to progress to the knockout stages, before being beating by Ireland in the quarterfinals. The European Women's Team of Mel Reid and Carlota Giganda also lost in the quarterfinals on Sunday, with Reid commenting.

I think it's a huge success for women's golf. Hopefully we've opened a few more eyes to women's golf and shown that we can compete and that we are pretty good at what we do, and we work very hard at what we do.

After defeating South Korea at the first play-off in the semi-finals, Ireland took an early lead against France in the final and stayed in front, when Paul Dunne rolled in a birdie putt on the fifth for a half to seal the victory and take the GolfSixes title.

We've had a lot of fun this week. Gavin and I have been friends for a long time and we know each other's games so well. We just played really solid all week. The course set up well for us and everyone at Centurion has really looked after us.

Paul Dunne

It's unbelievable - Its been a great week for both of us. To get it done today means a lot when you're representing Ireland. It was the best fun I've had on a golf course since turning professional.

Gavin Moynihan
