Autumn Golf Tips - Golf Club Near London Centurion Club Centurion Club

Summer may be over, the days are definitely getting chillier and the nights shorter, but that doesn’t mean your golf game should suffer. Many ‘fair weather golfers’ will be hibernating their clubs over the winter, so now is the perfect time to enjoy the peace, quiet, the fresh air and to embrace the changing surroundings before the really cold days arrive!

Here’s a few tips to help you play your best golf this Autumn:

Layer up
The weather app may say highs of 16 degrees, but early mornings and late evenings will be significantly colder, so wear plenty of layers that make it easy to adjust yourself to the optimal temperature during your round. It’s also worth having your waterproofs in your bag just incase that forecasted light shower turns into a torrential downpour!

Warm Up
Mobility and stretching exercises at home or in the locker room before your round will help you to warm your muscles up, meaning you’ll loosen up quicker, play better golf and prevent injuries. It’s also a great idea to allow some time to warm up on the range before teeing off. Aim to hit at least 15 balls on the range… Start with some half pitch shots and work your way up to your driver. Don’t forget to have a chip and a putt too to assess the speed of the greens.

Take more club
Colder temperatures mean your ball will not travel as far in the air, which means you need to take more club than you would in warmer months. Don’t forget, if the ground is wet and soft, you won’t get as much run out from your shots so you’ll need to carry your shots the whole distance.

Develop your game
Now that the season and competitions have ended, it’s the perfect time to work on your game and make swing changes. Use the autumn as a time to take lessons, practice drills and take those new swing thoughts onto the golf course without worrying about your score.

Be realistic and enjoy it
With tougher conditions, it’s likely that your scores may be higher and it’s likely to feel like more of a grind out there. That’s to be expected, so treat this season as a time to relax, enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of being out on the golf course, enjoy the vibrant autumnal colours, and try not to get too hung up on your score.
